Sarasota and her neighboring communities along the Gulf Coast of Florida and the waters of the Intracoastal Waterway are richly blessed. So many talented amateur and professional artists live here and teach and exhibit here. It’s a wonderfully nurturing environment for an amateur painter like me.
Many of the artists in these vibrant communities have been painting all their lives. Many make a living as artists. Many of them have college degrees in art, or taught art in the public schools. These men and women are phenomenal…they paint every day….they go to sleep dreaming of their next painting, and wake up with color schemes already figured out.
Not me. I came to watercolor painting relatively late….just six or seven years ago. I find it difficult to make time to paint…my excuse is that I have a full-time job….I am a realtor with Michael Saunders & Company on Longboat Key…but in my heart of hearts, I know that not painting every day marks me as a perennial amateur.
This does not stop me from enjoying my painting, from taking classes with various local artists, or from submitting my paintings to various galleries to be judged. My paintings have been juried into shows in Longboat Key, Bradenton and Sarasota, and I even won an honorable mention for my painting of water lilies several years ago.
I am a Signature member of the Florida Sun Coast Water Color Society, and am a member of the Florida Watercolor Society.
