Jim Tschirgi

Jim is a painter whose style abandons tight paintings and lets watercolor do its thing–colors mixed bold and bright on the page. His paintings include Sarasota scenes painted in studio or outdoors–but always striving for dramatic composition and lighting effects. Many paintings feature people–often on the beach, boating or doing the many things Floridians love.

Jim is author of a booklet published by ArtCenter Sarasota called “Jim Tschirgi Says Let’s Paint Watercolor”. Another watercolor book published by the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society reaches toward the Hispanic community: “Florida Acuarela”. Jim has taught watercolor classes for a decade in the Sarasota area, including Watercolor Wednesday at the Phillippi Estates and classes at ArtCenter Sarasota and the Leech Studio. He is a Signature Member of Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society and a top prize winner in local exhibitions. After majoring in painting 1981-83 at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Jim was a resident artist at Rockland Art Center. In this period, his oil portraits were nationally known watercolorists as Frank Webb, Don Andrews, Skip Lawrence and Martha Mans. His paintings are included in private collections and can be seen in Karchelles Gallery and Siesta Harbor and a masters exhibit at the Keiser College new headquarters.
