Evamarie Weiss was born and raised in Berlin, Germany during WWII. When she was 22, she met an American Fulbright student in Berlin, moved to Holland, married and some years later moved to Saudi Arabia for 10 years with Arabian American Oil Company. In 1960, when living in Holland, she became an American citizen while visiting in the US.
It was not until 1974 that she began living in the USA full time. In 1982 she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Administration and International Marketing from Pace University in New York. Of her six children only the youngest was born in this country.
Eva Weiss comes from a 50 years tradition of photography. She has exhibited her work in Photography and been awarded in many venues in Connecticut, Washington, and Florida. In Connecticut she was a member of The Photographers’ Round Table and sat on the Board of Directors of the New England School of Photography. In the years following she has taken her photography into abstraction and creative experimentation to gain more freedom from its inherent attention to reality.
Over the years, she was increasingly drawn to the beauty, freedom and spontaneity of expression offered by painting.
Eva began watercolor painting in 2006, taking classes and workshops at ACM and the Ringling School for Art and Design in Longboat Key. Breaking the tie to depicting everything photo-realistically is harder than she believed it would be. It is an exciting journey and she loves the challenge.
Eva is a member of Art Center Sarasota, Art Center Manatee, the Artists’ Guild of Anna Maria Island and a Signature Member of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society.
